1972 FERRARI DINO 246 GTS
SOLD
Dino 246’s have to be one of the all time most beautiful cars ever produced. Named in honor of Enzo Ferraris son Dino who lost his life to muscular dystrophy in 1956. Dinos, although sold and serviced through Ferrari dealerships never in fact had the name Ferrari on them. Today, as expected they are totally accepted as true Ferrari cars. There beauty can only be matched by there truly great handling. As a city car they are very easy to drive being very light and maneuverable to get around in. Not the most powerful Ferrari ever built but defiantly one of the fun ones to own and drive. Engine size is 2,418 cc being a V6 design with 3 Weber carburetors and rated at 195 horsepower. The transmission is a 5-speed and the engine is mounted transversely in front of the rear axle. 1972 was the first year to see the introduction of the GTS, giving it a removable roof panel that stowed behind the seats. The example we have here has undergone a lot of restoration work. Cosmetically the paint was striped to bare metal; all of the rubber was replaced along with the chrome being re-done. Interior wise it had a complete new interior re-done including the very hard to get original style Mouse Hair dash covering. Mechanically the engine was rebuilt and has about 10,000 miles on it. The car drives very well and has a very nice sound to it coming through its stainless steel exhaust. Cars with the bodywork and seats that this car has were known as a Chairs and Flares car and came with the optional Campagnolo alloy wheels and Michelin XWX tyres. Our example is chassis number 4676 and is to our knowledge, the very first European Chairs and Flares car ever built. The mileage indicated is 35,086 kilometers, about 20,000 miles. Finished in Rosso Chiaro with Tan Leather and Black highlights.
