1971 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE
455HO, 4-SPD, 12 BOLT
SOLD
1971 was one of the rarest of all GTO production with only 661 convertibles made. This car was built in Pontiac in the 2nd week of January. The first owner won it on a game show “The Price Is Right” and took delivery of it from Oaks Pontiac in Thousand Oaks, California. He owned it until 1982 and sold it with 42,000 miles on it. The second owner had it until 1999 and took it to 48,000 miles. We then got the car and sold it in February 1999 to the third and most recent owner who in turn took the mileage to 55,191. This car has never been owned outside of this local California area. Originally powered by the 400 cubic inch motor. That engine was either lost or possibly stolen by an engine rebuilder so it was then upgraded to the 455 cubic inch HO power plant. The engine is in a high state of tune with Jim Butler Performance modified Edelbrock High Performer Alluminium heads, Mondello roller rockers, forged alluminium pistons, balanced and blue printed, a Holley 780cfm carb, Extreme Energy comp cam, lifters and pushrods, K&N air filter system, Edelbrock High Performer intake manifold, blue printed Hi-Po oil pump, Pontiac HO exhaust manifolds and 2 ˝ inch exhaust with Spintech muffler. The 4-speed gear box has been rebuilt and is an M-22 with a Centerline clutch, converted to fully hydraulic operation. The rear axle is a 12 bolt posi-traction with 3:31 gears. The ignition system is all MSD, with an RPM Module selector and MSD distributor. The front suspension and brakes have also been rebuilt. It has the hood tach, Rally II wheels, center console and bucket seats. Originally equipped with air conditioning. The compressor was removed because of clearance issues but is available and with some bracket modifications could be put back. The car was repainted in 1983 and had the Red piping installed in the original seats. Finished in Cardinal Red with an Ivory interior (piped in Red) and a White power convertible top and matching convertible top boot.
